Forget Me Not

I love this talk and have thought of it many many times lately. I think I will be planting some forget me nots this year.

It is hard for me to remember that I am not forgotten.  I love that this flower is so simple and sweet, and it's my favorite color. I guess when I hear or read the words in this sermon, I see the flower, remember I am not alone, but also see that there is beauty in the world. That even when I think I am forgotten, really there is beauty around to show His love.

Coolest Cake

From the coolest roommate...

One of my friends had a birthday last Monday, so we invited her over for dinner on Sunday night.  I made Hawaiian Haystacks (per her request) and my roommate actually asked if she could make the cake.  I said that was fine by me. Turns out that my roommate LOVES to make cakes.  She recently saw a TV show with a tye-dye cake and has been wanting to try it.  So try it she did.  And she succeeded.  She ended up making a triple layer cake. Two layers of white/chocolate swirl and one of tye-dye with "tye dye" frosting.  Ridiculous.  It turned out amazing.  I was super impressed with her skills (and patience!).

Latest projects

When I was in Utah, all of my friends would talk about going to "Color Me Mine", which is a place that you can go to and paint your own plates, cups, bowls etc.  I always wanted to go, but never had the opportunity.  That desire continued and recently, I found a place near my house that does the same sort of thing.  You can go in and paint a ceramic something, leave it there and come back a week later and it's all fired and glazed and amazing looking.  Turns out that I love it.  It's so fun and relaxing to do!  So, I went just before Christmas a couple of times.  The first time I made a cookie plate, the second time and ice cream bowl.  I ran out of time with the ice cream bowl, so I actually didn't finish it until just a couple of weeks ago.  For some reason I decided to be detail oriented so even though I'm no artist, it took me forever to do!  I had such a blast though.  The next projects I will believe be a small candy bowl for my desk at work and a... dish? to put on the stove top- the type where you can put your spoons and spatulas and such in order to keep the stove top cleaner. It's so fun.  I would probably go back every weekend if I could!

Videos I love

While I was in Missouri for Christmas, Julia learned two new skills. 1) rolling 2) blowing raspberries.  Number one was especially important to me because when I arrived, she wasn't rolling, and as a pediatric physical therapist, I decided that I should be the one to teach her! :) I don't know that I did much except make her be on her belly a TON! And look! It worked. She rolled.  The kids were SO excited that they wanted to wake Mom up from a nap. She didn't quite know what to think of 6 kids and her auntie huddling around her, cheering!

This is her demonstrating the sweetness of raspberries.  Trista was out in MO the week before I was and she told me that she didn't see this so much, but I saw it again and again all week.  I thought it was so adorable.  Ms. Julia made me smile everyday!

Happy New Year's

My life is seriously SO boring!  Well...not exactly boring, but not really blog worthy. I go to work, I work too many hours, I get stuck in traffic, I listen to books, I go to Yoga, I sleep, I read. That's about it really. So not that exciting.  So- here's a blog about my New Year's "Resolutions".   I tell you what, I had a hard time with goals this year.  Without school to sort of...direct my life and goal-making, I felt a bit lost.  I don't know where I want to be or what I want to be doing in a year. Plus, I wanted to make realistic goals and also have a way to keep track that I did them.  I decided that making weekly or daily goals can be defeating because if you miss a week, then it's ruined.  Ok- that's dramatic, but you get the idea.  You don't do it once and it's easy to fall out of it.  So, instead of making the goal "I want to to _______ every week", I decided to use a number.  For example, my goal is to read 3x/week, or a total of 156 times throughout the year.  If one week I don't read at all, it's ok because another week I'll read 5 or 6 times.   I want to write in my journal and blog weekly.  Chances that this will happen exactly? Slim, but it feels easier for me to grasp it if it is a number of times and not a timeline. So- there ya go.

To keep track of them, I made a powerpoint with a picture, a table, and colorful cuteness, printed the slides, glued them to colored paper, and hung them on the door of my bedroom. That way, everyday I look at them and think about them.  All I have to do is pull out a pen and I can check away.  I love check marks.

So- here's a sample. My attempt at a productive and happy year!!
